It was a very unusual year for financial markets. As far back as 1977 – the first year the U.S. Aggregate Bond index was tracked – there had never been a year when both the S&P 500 index and the Aggregate Bond index declined in the same year.

Global equity markets continued to march materially higher in November even as expectations for a recession in 2023 seemed to grow.
